Pinch me, I can't believe that we are standing in front of the the oldest pyramid located in Saqqarah. It is the Step Pryamid build for King Zoser (3rd Dynasty) by Imhotep 4800 years ago!. It took another 200 years for the Egyptians to develop the ability to build the tallest pryamid, the Great Pryamid in Giza.
The Pryamids of Giza are the only survivors of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Great Pyramid at 480ft and using 2.3 millions stone blocks averaging 2 1/2 tons in weight was built for King Khufu (4th Dynasty) . It is not the largest pryamid in the world. That goes to Quetzalcoatl Pryamid near Mexico City.
The kids here are so curious and friendly. I was swamped at one point with a group of school girls who wanted to have their picture taken with me. Most of them have probably never seen a person from America. It was great fun interacting with them. For the most part, their English was pretty good. Here are some of my new friends. They have beautiful eyes and smiles.
Don entered the chamber thru a small opening that he said is very tight and narrow. He went in bent over doubled up a ramp that was pretty steep. His back bone scraped the ceiling and he got a few more knots on his head.
